Odyssey Bookstore's Personalized Book Subscriptions
Book subscriptions are the perfect gift for a loved one -- or to treat yourself!
At Odyssey, we pride ourselves on the individual attention and care we give to each person who walks through our door, and one of our favorite things to do is help people find the perfect next read. We wanted our subscription offerings to reflect that, so each month, our booksellers will pick out a book based off of the recipient's personal reading tastes and interests. No two subscribers will end up with the same book. It's truly a subscription service as unique as you are!
We have two options to pick from, and two ways for you to get your books. Paperbacks or hardcovers, in-store pick up or delivery. To see the specific pricing of each option, first choose:
Paperbacks or Hardcovers
Paperbacks are perfect when you don't want to spend quite as much money and are open to books published both recently and long ago.
Hardcovers will always be recent releases. If you like to stay on top of what's new and trending, a hardcover subscription might be perfect for you!
*Once you've decided on your subscription and made your purchase, we will email you with your subscriber code. Once you have that, be sure to fill out the New Subscriber Form. Your subscription will not be active until you do so.
Q: When will I get my first book?
A: Books will be ready for pick up or they will be shipped out on the 15th of each month. Your subscription will generally be active the month after you finish your new subscriber form. For example, this means that whether you sign up on the 1st, 6th, or 12th of August, your first book will be ready or shipped on the 15th of September.
Q: I don't live nearby. Can I still purchase a book subscription?
A: Yes! We can ship anywhere in the USA.
Q: What if you send me a book I've already read or already own?
A: Let us know within one week of picking your book up or receiving it that it's a book you already own or have read. If you picked it up in the store, we will gladly pick out a new book for you and you can come by at your convenience to swap them out. If the book has been shipped to you, you can ship it back to us and we will ship you a new one. However, you will be responsible the cost of shipping the book back to us. The books must be in new condition to be eligible for an exchange, however. If we find evidence of a book being read or if it is damaged, we won't be able to provide you with a new one.
Q: I want to purchase a subscription for a friend. Do I need to know their email or mailing address to purchase this for them?
A: You will need some way of getting the information to your friend that this subscription is for them, whether that's a text, phone call, visit, or telegram. They will need their unique subscription code that will be provided to the purchaser. With that code, they can fill out the new subscriber form and that's where they will tell us exactly how to contact them and/or ship their books (if you purchase a subscription that includes shipping)!
Q: What if I don't like the book you sent me?'
A: While we hope that's never the case, it may well happen that you receive a book doesn't become your next favorite. Unfortunately, we can't accept returns on a book you didn't like, but we will send out a feedback form 2 weeks after you receive your book each month and you can let us know how we're doing so that hopefully next time we're able to pick out something that's a better fit for you!
Q: Is this a good way to save money on books?
A: No, probably not! While we completely understand that finances play a part in how and where we are able to obtain our books, this subscription service is not intended to be the more economical choice when it comes to book buying. The subscription cost includes both the cost of books and the time spent by booksellers to process orders, keep up with subscriptions, and the time spent on picking out books and packaging them for you. However, we will always do our best to give you the most value for your subscription!
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: If you purchased a subscription in error or decided against it after purchase but have not yet started receiving books or we haven't yet shipped out your first book, you are eligible for a refund. But please note that if you have already started receiving books or we have already shipped out your book, you will not be eligible for a refund. However, in most cases, the remaining balance can be refunded as store credit only.
